Harold Jeffers came to Morgan County, Ohio, in 1948 as a young, just-married Methodist minister. At that time, near the village of Chesterhill, there were many tired and played-out pastures and fields, where farming was not suited to the hilly landscape. Rev. and Mrs. Jeffers loved the area, and had a vision of replenishing the fruitfulness of the land by creating and fostering sustainable forests. The Jeffers Tree Farm has been in existence since that time more than half a century ago.

In 2003, Harold Jeffers was inducted into the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Hall of Fame. He is the first, the only, tree farmer to receive this honor and recognition.

Jeffers Tree Farm is actively managed by family members. It is the largest private, family-owned Tree Farm in Ohio.
